Benign Weather Ahead for Winnipeg

After receiving a fresh blanket of snow overnight, Winnipeg will see quiet conditions over the next couple days with near-seasonal temperatures.

A sprawling Arctic ridge will push into Manitoba today, bringing partly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures. Winnipeg should see a high near -6 °C today with breezy northwest winds this morning easing for the afternoon. Temperatures will dip to a low near -12 °C tonight under clear skies.

On Saturday, a trough of low pressure moving across the province will gradually spread more cloud into the region. More warm air will push into the region with this disturbance, and Winnipeg’s high should climb back towards the freezing mark. Winds will pick up out of the south into the 20–30 km/h range midday and then taper off in the evening as the trough moves through. Temperatures will dip down to a low near -7 °C with winds picking up out of the west-northwest to around 30 km/h by Sunday morning. The city will see a chance of some light snow overnight, but most of it should keep to the north.

Temperatures in Winnipeg will climb back to the freezing mark on Saturday.

On Sunday, skies should mix out with a brisk northwest wind continuing into the afternoon before easing. Temperatures will cool off again with a high near -6 °C in Winnipeg. Winds will be calm on Sunday night as another ridge moves across the region with temperatures dropping to a low in the minus teens.

Long Range Outlook

Next week, the polar vortex is forecast to retrograde northwards towards the pole, drawing the colder air northwards and allowing more seasonably mild air to push across the Prairies. As a result, Winnipeg will likely see variable cloudiness with highs in the -5 to 0 °C range and overnight lows in the -5 to -10 °C range. There will likely be a chance of snow or two as the occasional Pacific impulse rolls through, but overall it’d be hard to ask for a better late-November week in Winnipeg!

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is -3 °C while the seasonal overnight low is -11 °C.

Mild November Weather Continues

After slightly cooler conditions on Monday, warmer and cloudier conditions will build back across southern Manitoba.

Cooler weather will settle over the region today as an Arctic high builds into the region behind a clipper system that moved through North Daktoa last night. Skies will clear out today as winds pick up out of the northwest into the 20–30 km/h range. Temperatures will be a tad cooler than of late with a high near -5 °C. The wind will taper off this evening as temperatures head to a low near -16 °C with a few clouds overnight.

On Tuesday, the Arctic ridge will push off to the southeast while a potent low pressure system develops over Alberta. Between the two, moderate southerly winds will strengthen into the 40–50 km/h range. For Winnipeg, the wind will stay light for much of the day, instead picking up in the evening after the sun goes down. Temperatures should climb to a near-seasonal high around -3 or -4 °C. Skies will become cloudier as the day progresses ahead of the arrival of a warm front.

Cooler Weather Ahead

A much cooler air mass building across the Prairies in the wake of yesterday’s Colorado Low will push across southern Manitoba today.

Winnipeg will see breezy westerly winds near 30 gusting 50 km/h today that will usher in cooler temperatures. As the day goes on, skies will cloud over and temperatures will dip to around -4 °C by the evening. Skies will stay on the cloudier side tonight as the wind drops off and temperatures head to a low near -9 °C.

On Tuesday, Winnipeg will see some sunny breaks as temperatures climb back to a high near -4 °C. The cloud cover should clear out by evening leaving Winnipeg with just a few clouds overnight and a low near -13 °C.

A weak disturbance will move towards the region on Wednesday, pushing cloud back into the Red River Valley. Temperatures will climb to a high near -1 °C. The city will see a chance of light snow heading into Wednesday night, but no notable accumulations are expected. Temperatures will head to a low near -11 °C.

Long Range Outlook

Cooler weather will stick around for Thursday and Friday as another Arctic ridge moves across the region. Some lake-effect snow will be possible on Thursday in the wake of the disturbance moving through. Some milder weather is possible on the weekend with highs potentially climbing back above the freezing mark.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 1 °C while the seasonal overnight low is -7 °C.

Beautiful November Weather Ahead

The forecast is short and sweet to start the week: sunny and warm!

A broad upper ridge building across the Prairies has finally arrived in southern Manitoba. As a result, it will bring plenty of sunshine as temperatures climb into the low teens right through the next few days.

RDPS 2m Temperature Forecast valid 21Z Tuesday November 3, 2020
The southern Prairies will enjoy a late-year warm spell with temperatures in the teens across much of the region.

Winds will also be light through the coming days, generally no more than 15–25 km/h.

There really isn’t much to say! Enjoy this nice stretch of mild November weather!

Long Range Outlook

Conditions will turn cloudier towards the end of the week as the upper ridge begins to collapse and a couple lows track across the central Prairies. Temperatures will stay warm until Thursday, then begin cooling towards seasonal values.

Weather models are all showing a fairly potent winter storm developing this weekend in the form of a Colorado Low. There is still a large discrepancy on the track of the low, but there is good agreement that this storm could bring 20 to 30 cm of snow along a swath somewhere through the southeastern Prairies.

While there’s little agreement in where the snow will fall right now, but regardless of that, this system will usher in much cooler conditions for next week. Daytime highs will fall back below seasonal values through the first half of the week.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 3 °C while the seasonal overnight low is -6 °C.
