Seasonably Cool Weather Ahead

A northwesterly flow aloft will bring seasonably cool temperatures and variable cloudiness to Winnipeg this week.

There won’t be too much of a change in the weather over the next few days as cooler conditions settle in behind the blast furnace the city saw on Friday. Temperatures over the next three days will be consistent with highs near 20°C and lows of 5 to 10°C.

Both today and Wednesday will bring just a few clouds to the city, but Tuesday will bring more cloud as a shortwave moves through. A few showers or perhaps even an isolated thundershower will move into the Red River Valley on Tuesday afternoon, but might stay west and south of the city.

Winds will also be fairly consistent over the next few days. Winds will increase out of the northwest or north into the 20 to 30 km/h range each day and diminish at night.

Long Range Outlook

The rest of the work week will bring more of the same to Winnipeg with highs continuing in the low 20s and variable cloudiness. Temperatures will warm up slightly for the weekend, but no major changes are forecast.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 23°C while the seasonal overnight low is 10°C.

Temperatures Finally Heating Up

After a cloudy and unsettled weekend, summer weather will quickly return to Winnipeg.

Winnipeg will see settled conditions and increasing warmth as an upper-level ridge builds into the region. It will bring settled conditions to the region, giving Winnipeg plenty of sunshine over the next 3 days. Temperatures will make a welcome climb from highs near 20°C today into the mid-20’s for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The city will see light easterly winds today, but Tuesday will bring west-southwest winds into the 20 to 30 km/h range. Winds will ease back to light on Tuesday evening. Wednesday will bring a northerly shift to the winds with speeds likely remaining under 20 km/h.

Long Range Outlook

Temperatures will cool slightly for the second half of the week with daytime highs returning back towards the 20°C mark. The city will also likely see a bit more cloud, particularly on Friday when a passing system may bring some showers the region. Expect variable cloudiness this weekend with near-seasonal temperatures.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 22°C while the seasonal overnight low is 8°C.

Cool Temperatures With Variable Cloudiness Ahead

An Arctic ridge will keep temperatures seasonably cool through the weekend as cloud pushes northwards out of the United States.

Unfortunately, Winnipeg has fallen into another stretch of below-seasonal temperatures. A ridge of high pressure extending from the Arctic southwards through the province will keep daytime highs in the mid teens through the weekend. The ridge will keep it dry over the province, but cloud will push northwards out of the United States. As a result, a mainly sunny start Friday will give way to cloudier conditions by the end of the afternoon.

Winds will start off light today, but will strengthen out of the north to around 30 km/h. The wind will ease to around 20 km/h tonight, then strengthen back to 30 to 40 km/h on Saturday. Saturday night will bring a repeat with winds easing to 20 km/h followed by a restrengthening to 30 km/h on Sunday.

Winds will pick up on Saturday as the pressure gradient strengthens between a ridge of high pressure extending from the Arctic and a low pressure system crossing the Dakotas.

Through all this wind, mixed to mostly cloudy skies will persist through the weekend. Daytime highs will hover in the low to mid-teens with overnight lows consistent in the low single digits. Unfortunately, the persistent wind through the weekend will make it feel rather chilly.

All in all the weather will be fairly quiet this weekend, even if it’s a bit cooler and cloudier than many would like for this time of year.

Long Range Outlook

Next week will start with a slow return towards seasonal temperatures. By mid-week, forecast models show a disturbance grazing the province which may bring some light rain to the region.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 20°C while the seasonal overnight low is 6°C.

Cooler Temperatures Ahead For The Weekend

Winnipeg will see seasonably cool temperatures over the next few days with sunshine giving way to cloudy skies for Sunday.

A ridge of high pressure moving across southern Manitoba will be the main [lack of] weather-maker over the next couple days. The ridge will bring seasonably cool temperatures to the region; Winnipeg should see highs near 12°C and overnight lows dipping below freezing on Friday and Saturday. That wind that was so prominent yesterday will also ease with the approach of the ridge. Winnipeg will see northwesterly winds of 20 to 30 km/h today that become light tonight through Saturday.

A broad upper trough over central Canada will bring seasonably cool weather to southern Manitoba through the weekend.

A low pressure system moving from Montana into the Dakotas will spread cloud cover into southern Manitoba on Sunday. Some light rain will spread into southwestern Manitoba through the afternoon, but the Red River Valley won’t likely see any rain until late in the day or the evening. Temperatures will stay cool with a high near 11°C as winds pick up out of the east into the 20 to 30 km/h range. Winnipeg and the Red River Valley look to have a good chance of some light rain overnight. Temperatures will dip to a low near +2°C as winds shift to the north through the night.

Long Range Outlook

Skies should clear through the Red River Valley on Monday, but temperatures will continue below seasonal values. The next chance for rain will move into the region Wednesday night into Thursday. In the wake of that disturbance, it looks like Winnipeg will return to more seasonal temperatures with variable cloudiness.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is 14°C while the seasonal overnight low is +1°C.
