Seasonably Mild Temperatures On The Way!

Winnipeg will see very pleasant December weather this week as mild air floods across the region.

Winnipeg will see temperatures climb well above seasonal values as mild air floods eastwards across the Prairies. Today will bring the most sunshine of the next few to the city with nary a cloud in the sky. Temperatures will climb to a high near -6°C with light winds. The city will see increasing cloudiness tonight with temperatures dipping to a low near -11°C.

Tuesday will bring mainly cloudy skies to the city with a high once again near -6°C. Winds will be out of the south at 10 to 20 km/h. A weak upper trough moving through on Tuesday evening will bring a chance for a bit of light snow and usher in slightly milder temperatures. Under mostly cloudy skies Winnipeg will head to a low near -8°C on Tuesday night.

Wednesday will bring more cloud cover to the city, but temperatures will climb to a seasonally balmy -3°C. Winds will be out of the south at 15 to 25 km/h. A stronger trough of low pressure moving through on Wednesday evening will bring another chance for some light snow to the region as temperatures remain steady near -3°C.

Long Range Outlook

The remainder of the week continues to see very mild conditions remain over southern Manitoba. Daytime highs will climb towards 0°C by the end of the week with variable cloudiness through the second half. No major snowfall events are on the horizon.

Temperatures Return Closer to Seasonal For The Weekend

Winnipeg will see pleasant conditions this weekend with seasonably cool temperatures and variable cloud cover.

The cold weather that moved into the region yesterday has already left with a more seasonal air mass taking its place. A warm front moving into the region brought cloud through the night that will clear out early this morning. Left behind will be sunshine, light southwesterly winds, and daytime highs near -12°C. Skies will remain clear tonight with light winds as temperatures dip to a low near -18°C.

More sunshine is on tap for Saturday with a southerly flow developing ahead of yet warmer air trying to push into the region. Temperatures will climb to a high near -10°C with southerly winds near 20 km/h. Skies will cloud over on Saturday night as temperatures dip to a low near -16°C.

Sunday will bring cloudy skies to Winnipeg as a weak upper trough moves through. The city might see a few light flurries, but there won’t be any accumulating snowfall. Temperatures will be a bit cooler with a high back near -10°C. Winds will be light. The cloud cover should stick around on Sunday night with a low near -15°C.

Long Range Outlook

After the upper trough moves through on Friday, warmer air will continue to spread eastwards across the Prairies. With variable cloudiness, next wee should bring high temperatures generally around -5°C with lows near -10°C. Some days may be cloudier than others, but no major snowfall events are forecast right now. All things considered, it’s quite a pleasant start to December!

Variable Cloudiness With Seasonal Temperatures Ahead

Winnipeg will see a gradual shift towards cooler conditions over the coming days as an Arctic high builds southwards into the province.

The system that brought the first notable snowfall of the season to Winnipeg of almost 10 cm will continue to slowly move eastwards into north-western Ontario today. In its wake, an Arctic high pressure system will slowly build southwards out of Nunavut into Manitoba. This high pressure system will bring cooler temperatures back into the province by the end of the weekend.

Today, Winnipeg will see mixed skies with some morning sun followed by clouds later in the day. Temperatures will climb to a seasonal high near -6°C. Cloudy skies will persist tonight with lows dipping to around -9°C this evening.

Saturday will bring mixed skies as morning cloud breaks to let some mid- to late-day sun shine through. Temperatures will reach a high near -5°C with light northerly winds. Temperatures will head to a low near -11°C tonight with a few clouds around.

High temperatures near -6°C will be back on Sunday for Winnipeg. The city will see increasingly cloudy skies with light northerly winds. Temperatures will dip to a low near -11°C on Sunday night with mainly cloudy skies.

Long Range Outlook

Winnipeg will continue to see near-seasonal temperatures to start next week. More snow is possible Monday night into Tuesday morning, but at this point it looks like just flurries or a bit of light snow. A colder air mass will begin to build into the region mid-week, sending temperatures plummeting to well below-seasonal values by the end of the week. Get those long johns ready!

Arctic High Brings More Cold Weather

An approaching Arctic ridge will send temperatures in Winnipeg plunging well below seasonal values once again.

Colder weather returns to Winnipeg today as an Arctic ridge begins building through the Prairies. Northwesterly winds near 30 km/h will keep temperatures much cooler than seasonal today; Winnipeg’s high temperature will struggle to just -6°C. The colder air will continue to filter into the region tonight, sending temperatures down to a low near -15°C. Morning cloud will give way to breaks of sunshine this afternoon. Winnipeg will see a chance of flurries through the afternoon into the early evening. Skies will gradually continue to clear overnight with winds shifting to westerly at 10 to 20 km/h.

The Arctic ridge will move through the Red River Valley on Saturday, bringing cool temperatures and sunny skies. Winnipeg will see a high of just -9°C with west-southwest winds of 15 to 25 km/h. Temperatures will drop to a low near -13°C on Saturday night with increasing cloudiness.

Sunday will bring fairly cloudy skies to the region, although once again sunny breaks will be possible through the afternoon. It will be another cool day with a high near -8°C and winds should be light through the day. Skies will remain mixed to mostly cloudy on Sunday night as temperatures drop to a low near -14°C.

Next week should bring a return to seasonal temperatures by mid-week with variable cloudiness. No significant precipitation is forecast.
