Warm summer weather will continue through the weekend in Winnipeg.

Summer heat returns to southern Manitoba with highs in the low 30s today. Winnipeg will see temperatures climb to a high near 30 °C before a cold front begins slumping into the region. As the front moves in this afternoon, the city will see increasing cloud cover with a good chance of showers. There will also be a chance for a few thunderstorms afternoon with a small chance of a marginally severe thunderstorm. The primary threats from any thunderstorms that develop would be damaging hail and/or damaging wind gusts. The showers and thunderstorms will push off into northwestern Ontario this evening.

The city will see a breezy start to the day with southerly winds of 30 gusting 50 km/h. The winds will ease midday as the cold front approaches, then pick up out of the northwest to 30 gusting 50 km/h this evening. Skies will clear out with easing winds overnight as temperatures head to a low near 13 °C.

Hot weather will push back into southern Manitoba today with highs in the low 30s along and south of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Winnipeg will see a quieter day on Thursday with sunshine in the morning and a few clouds in the afternoon. Temperatures will climb to a high near 27 °C with a northwest breeze around 20 km/h. Heading into the evening, an upper-level disturbance tracking along the international border will spread more cloud into the region. Showers will push into southwestern Manitoba in the evening, then onwards towards the Red River Valley. There will be a chance for Winnipeg to see some rain from this overnight, but the rain may end up slumping a bit further south and missing the city.

Temperatures will head to a low near 15 °C on Thursday night.

On Friday, a broad ridge of high pressure will bring plenty of sun to the region. Temperatures will again climb to a high near 27 °C with light winds. More cloud will push into the region on Friday night ahead of another disturbance moving into the region from the northwest. Temperatures will head to a low near 16 °C overnight.

Long Range Outlook

Warm weather will continue through the weekend in Winnipeg with highs in the upper 20s and lows in the mid-teens. The city will likely see mixed skies on Saturday with a chance of showers or thunderstorms later in the day, while Sunday should bring more sun back to the region. A potent upper high building into the Prairies next week will bring an extended period of sunny weather with highs in the upper 20s or low 30s.

Cool Monday, Then Warming Up for Winnipeg

It will be a cool start to the week in Winnipeg, but summer heat will quickly build back into the region this week.

Southern Manitoba will continue to see cooler weather today thanks to a broad vortex over Hudson Bay. It has brought a northerly flow the province and sent a pipeline of Arctic air southwards over the eastern Prairies. The seasonably cool temperatures will stick around today, supported by a northwest wind near 30 km/h. Winnipeg will likely start the day with some sunshine, but skies will become mixed through the morning. There will be a small chance of some midday showers today as the winds shift the Lake Manitoba streamers towards the city. Temperatures will reach a high near 17 °C. A few clouds will linger tonight as winds ease and temperatures drop to a low near 6 °C.

Seasonal temperatures will return to southern Manitoba on Tuesday an upper ridge pushes eastwards across the Prairies. A weak ridge will bring sunny skies to the Red River Valley with a high near 25 °C in Winnipeg. Winds will be light out of the southwest at 15–25 km/h. A warm front will push across southern Manitoba on Tuesday night, bringing a few clouds to Winnipeg with a mild low near 16 °C. Winds will strengthen out of the south overnight as well, increasing into the 30–40 km/h range by Wednesday morning.

The cooler start to the week will quickly give way to summertime heat by Wednesday.

The heat will be back on Wednesday with temperatures climbing to a high near 31 °C. Those moderate southerly winds will ease midday as a trough of low pressure moves into the Red River Valley. Winds look to switch to westerly at 20–30 km/h for the afternoon with a few clouds. A cold front pushing into the region later in the day will bring a chance of showers or thunderstorms to Winnipeg. Any storms would have limited energy to work with, but the winds will be favourable to help organize any thunderstorms that develop. The forecasted environment would suggest that some scattered thunderstorms are possible with a risk of isolated marginally severe storms.

Everything will settle down on Wednesday night with a low near 15 °C under mixed skies.

Long Range Outlook

Winnipeg should see near-seasonal temperatures through the rest of the work week, followed by a return of hotter conditions for the weekend into next week. Forecasts show little precipitation ahead with mainly sunny conditions this weekend into next week.

A Cooler Weekend Ahead for Winnipeg

A series of low pressure systems will bring cooler weather to Winnipeg for the weekend.

A cold front sweeping through the Red River Valley will bring substantially cooler temperatures to Winnipeg today. The front will move through this morning and usher in moderate northwest winds up to 40 gusting 60 km/h and cloudier skies. Those northwest winds will bring notably cooler temperatures to the region; Winnipeg will see a below-seasonal high around 18 °C.

Skies will clear this evening with easing winds. Temperatures will head to a low near 9 °C.

Temperatures will rebound back to seasonal values on Saturday. A weak warm front pushing into the region will send Winnipeg’s high to around 24 °C. The city will see plenty of sun with partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. Temperatures will head to a low near 14 °C on Saturday night with rain likely beginning by Sunday morning.

While many weather models show rain for Winnipeg on Sunday, some—like this GDPS run—keep things dry through the Canadian Red River Valley.

Sunday will likely bring morning rain to Winnipeg as a frontal wave passes along the international border. The city could see as much as 5 to 10 mm of rain before it eases midday. For the second half of the day, the cloud cover will begin to break up as moderate northerly winds of 40–50 km/h develop. These winds will keep the temperature cooler as well; Winnipeg will see a high near 17 °C on Sunday.

Skies will clear with a low near 6 °C on Sunday night. The wind is forecast to ease into the 20–30 km/h range overnight.

Long Range Outlook

The cool weather will persist through the first half of next week. Daytime highs will gradually climb from the mid-teens to seasonal values by Wednesday. Mainly sunny conditions should be in place to start the week, but more unsettled conditions are forecast for the latter half.

Windy Second Half of Week Ushers in Cooler Weather

A low pressure system crossing the northern Prairies will bring a surge of cooler air for the weekend.

Winnipeg will see moderate winds today that will bring hot weather to the region. With plenty of sun, southerly winds will increase into the 30–40 km/h range this morning. Those gusty winds will send temperatures climbing to a high near 32 °C this afternoon with increasing humidity. A trough will move into the Red River Valley mid-afternoon, bringing a few clouds and the chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms. West-northwest winds of 20–30 km/h will develop this evening behind the trough and gradually diminish overnight.

The Red River Valley will see very warm temperatures today with highs in the low 30s.

Winnipeg will see moderate west-northwest winds behind the front on Thursday. Temperatures will still be fairly warm with a high near 28 °C with a drier air mass over the region. The winds will peak in the afternoon at 40 gusting 60 km/h then ease to around 20 km/h overnight. Temperatures will head to a low near 13 °C.

Another cold front will slump into southern Manitoba from the north on Friday. It will bring cloudier conditions to the region along with moderate northwest winds near 30 km/h. There may end up being a chance of showers, but much of the activity will likely pass to the east. It will be a noticeably cooler day with a below-seasonal high near 18 °C in Winnipeg. The city will see clearing skies and a low near 9 °C on Friday night.

Long Range Outlook

Temperatures will remain seasonal to below-seasonal in Winnipeg for the weekend and into next week. Saturday looks to be a pleasant day, however clouds and the chance of showers return for Sunday and Monday. This unsettled pattern will continue into mid-week before things begin warming up in the latter half of the week.
