Temperature Roller Coaster Ahead for Winnipeg

Winnipeg will see temperatures vary significantly over the next few days as Pacific lows and Arctic highs quickly move through.

The first of 3 weather systems set to impact the region in as many days is on the way. A low pressure system will move across the province today, spread warmer air across southern Manitoba. Temperatures in Winnipeg will climb to a high near -10°C with southerly winds near 20 km/h shifting to westerly late in the day. Skies will start off clear, but cloud cover will work into the region this afternoon and bring a chance of flurries with it.

Skies will clear tonight as a cold front pushes through the region. Temperatures will dip to a low near -26°C.

The second system to impact the region – an Arctic high – will move through the province on Tuesday. It will bring mainly sunny skies to Winnipeg but temperatures will be cold with a high of just -22°C. Some cloud cover will begin working in from the west on Tuesday night, but not before temperatures dip to a low near -27°C.

An Arctic high will move through northern Saskatchewan Monday night and into Manitoba on Tuesday. It will bring seasonably cold conditions to the region.

On Wednesday, the third system of the week will move into the province. A low pressure system will approach from the northwest, drawing another push of milder Pacific air eastwards. In Winnipeg, skies will stay mostly cloudy with moderate southeasterly winds near 30 gusting 50 km/h. There will be a chance of flurries, but the dry southerly winds will limit the potential. With warmer air pushing in, Winnipeg will see a high near -15°C late in the day. Winds will ease on Wednesday night with temperatures remaining steady near -15°C.

Long Range Outlook

The rest of the week looks seasonably mild with daytime highs climbing into the -7 to -10°C range and overnight lows in the warmer half of the minus teens. Cloud looks to be plentiful, though, and there will be the occasional chance of flurries. No significant snowfall is in the forecast.

Today’s seasonal daytime high in Winnipeg is -10°C while the seasonal overnight low is -20°C.
