Mild Spring Weather Arrives

Winnipeg will enjoy pleasant spring weather with seasonably mild temperatures and a chance of showers.

Winnipeg will see warmer weather move in today as a weak area of low pressure builds east across the Prairies. Temperatures will climb to a high near 22 °C this afternoon with southerly winds into the 20–30 km/h range. Skies should stay mostly sunny through the day. It will continue to be dry; with warm weather and dew points between -5 and -10 °C, the relative humidity will drop into the 10–20% range for the afternoon. A few clouds will linger overnight as a continued southerly flow brings warmer air with a bit more moisture into the region. Winnipeg should see a low near 9 °C. There’s also a slight chance that a few showers may drift across the region overnight.

Summer-like warmth will spread across southern Manitoba on Thursday.

Thursday will be a beautiful day across many parts of the Red River Valley. Winnipeg will see a high near 24 °C with partly cloudy skies as the broad area of low pressure continues to build into the province. Dew points will be higher on Thursday, climbing above 0°C and into the low to mid single digits. While this isn’t particularly remarkable on its own, it will be a 10–15 °C increase from Wednesday. One thing that the higher dew points will allow for, though, is the likely development of some scattered showers in afternoon. Although there isn’t too much instability, an isolated non-severe thunderstorm may be possible as well.

Things will taper off in the evening with temperatures in Winnipeg heading to a low near 9 °C under partly cloudy skies.

Many places across southern Manitoba will see a chance of scattered afternoon showers on Thursday and Friday.

Friday will bring much of the same to Winnipeg again with a high near 22 °C and partly cloudy skies. Some scattered showers will once again be possible in the afternoon with the risk of an isolated non-severe thunderstorm. Temperatures will dip to a low near 7 °C on Friday night with a few lingering clouds.

Long Range Outlook

Spring arrives, as they say, slowly and suddenly. While a prolonged cool pattern only came to an end yesterday, now it looks like Winnipeg will be seeing nothing but warmth for the next week. Highs of 20–25 °C are forecast well into next week with overnight lows in the upper single digits or low teens. The warmer overnight lows, in particular, should help the growing season get started across the region.

Several disturbances will move through the region through the next week, bringing a couple chances of rain with them.

Cool But Pleasant Weather Ahead

Winnipeg will see seasonably cool spring weather this week with plenty of sunshine.

Winnipeg will see some lingering cloud with a chance of showers today in the wake of yesterday’s disturbance that moved across the region. The cloud cover will gradually break up through the day with the best chance for showers in Winnipeg late in the morning. The region will see a persistent north wind near 30 gusting 50 km/h through the day today. Temperatures will reach a seasonably cool high near 10 °C.

An area of high pressure extending from the Northwest Territories through southern Manitoba will dominate the weather pattern over the coming week.

A ridge of high pressure will build into the region tonight and bring clearing skies as the winds ease. Temperatures will head to a low near -3 °C.

This ridge of high pressure will dominate the weather pattern through the rest of the week. Winnipeg will see plenty of sunshine both Tuesday and Wednesday with highs near 10 or 11 °C and lows dipping just below freezing. Winds will pick up out of the north-northwest into the 20–30 km/h range each day and ease for the night.

Long Range Outlook

This ridge will stick around right into the weekend, bringing quiet weather and seasonably cool temperatures to the region. Forecasts show this pattern breaking down next week with seasonal temperatures returning. No rain is forecast.

Warmer Weather Pushing in For Saturday, Then Cooler With Showers

It will be a windy transition day in Winnipeg today as a warm front pushes across the region. Heading through the weekend, a mild Saturday will give way to unsettled conditions on Sunday.

A warm front will push eastwards across the province today, bringing afternoon cloud and breezy southerlies to Winnipeg. Temperatures will climb to a high near 13 °C with south winds increasing to 40 gusting 60 km/h midday. The city will see a sunny start to the day, but clouds will move in for the afternoon ahead of the warm front. There may be a slight chance of a rain shower in the evening as the front moves through, then skies will clear up for the night. The city will see a low near 5 °C with easing winds.

An upper ridge over the region will bring mild weather to Winnipeg on Saturday. Under partly cloudy skies, the city will see a high near 21 °C with northerly winds up to 20 km/h. More organized cloud cover will begin to move into the region late in the day as an upper trough approaches. There will be a chance of showers overnight with a low near 6 °C.

Southern Manitoba will see daytime highs climbing into the 20s on Saturday.

On Sunday, skies will stay on the cloudier side as the upper trough slowly moves through the region. Some sunny breaks are likely, but the region will also see a good chance of showers. Winds will stay out of the north at 20–30 km/h and highs will be cooler at around 13 °C. The chance for showers will taper off Sunday night with a low near +1 °C.

Long Range Outlook

Forecasts show a fairly stable pattern next week with daytime highs in the low to mid-teens and overnight lows in the 0–4 °C range. The start of the week is forecast to be fairly sunny, though mid-week might be a bit cloudier. The forecast shows no notable chances for rain.

Spring Weather Here to Stay

A broad pattern change will bring Winnipeg milder spring conditions through the next week.

While today won’t be quite as beautiful as Tuesday was, the city will enjoy a great start to the day. Under mixed skies temperatures will quickly climb to a high near 15 °C with light winds. Winnipeg will find itself close to a SW–NE frontal boundary that will slide eastwards in the afternoon. By late-afternoon, moderate northerly winds of 30–40 km/h will push cooler temperatures into the region. The frontal passage will bring cloudier skies with a few showers late in the day into the evening hours.

Cooler temperatures will push in overnight with diminishing winds. Skies will clear out with a low near -3 °C.

The cool temperatures won’t stick around, though. On Thursday, temperatures will quickly rebound back to a high near 12 °C. The city will see plenty of sunshine with partly cloudy skies and winds will be light much of the day. Northwest winds will pick up to around 20 km/h this evening as an area of high pressure moves in. Temperatures will dip to a low near -1 °C overnight with clear skies.

A warm front will move into Manitoba on Friday, bringing windy conditions to the Red River Valley and much warmer conditions to the southwest corner of the province.

Friday will start off sunny, but an approaching warm front will bring clouds for the afternoon. Temperatures will climb quickly through the morning to a high near 16 °C. Southerly winds ahead of the front will strengthen into the 30–40 km/h range for the afternoon. This warm front will support some rain as it pushes east, but it will stay well north of the Red River Valley. The rain is forecast mainly for central and northern Manitoba and it should stay dry this far south.

The clouds will break up on Friday night with gradually easing winds and a mild low near 6 °C.

Long Range Outlook

Winnipeg’s weekend looks great with plenty of sunshine and highs in the mid- to upper-teens. The seasonal temperatures will continue into the start of next week, but a few disturbances moving through on Tuesday/Wednesday are forecast to bring more cloud and a chance of showers to the region.
